I tried helping a little girl in foster care. What all I went thru trying to get her help all the way to right before the governor . They need to reevaluate the system . Everyone says they want to help .. but do they really ? Thank you Lord she finally got removed from the home . Now the foster parent has two more children . Someone from the court house came to me and told me the foster parent was being rude and ugly to the children as well as to them . System talks about protecting children. Really ? Dealing with kids that have been abused by family , foster parents and then the system ? Crazy . I don’t get it .

The state is more afraid being sued than advocating for the children. A case supervisor once said it’s the CASA’s job to care about the kids. There are some good hearted caseworkers, but they are overloaded with cases and tied up in policies that were written without common sense. So many foster parents quit , because of policies that don’t help the kids.

I am sorry I missed some of the things you wrote .

I am sorry you had so much trouble. I agree with all you have written about .

I have several stories from foster parents . I learned a lot trying to help Savannah. I tired to get them to speak up . Most were afraid if they spoke up and they would lose their kids. How is the girl you where talking about ? Do you know where she is now ?

Yes, a lot of foster parents are afraid to speak up. I was not very popular, because I asked questions. Yes, I know where she is and I am trying to keep the connection. Her siblings, at least the ones I adopted, have not seen her since October of last year. Foster care has traumatized me and I would/could not tell someone to go for it if asked. My personal opinion is to take foster care out of the states hands all together. The seemingly never ending efforts of re-unification, which in so many cases are just a waste of time for the children, the court hearings with self promoting attorneys it’s beyond me. I am originally from Europe and we take court more serious. I believe that caseworkers, most of them are right out of college, have the best intentions and to help families, BUT they realize quickly that there is not much room for development, unless you fall into the mold. And to not sound condescending, a 4 year degree in psychology only gets you so far, and there are not too many options.

You sound like me I am definitely not popular in the system. I pray a lot, how can these kids get the help they need . It has grieved my heart .

One of my customers said he went in foster care at the age of 11 and came out at 18 . In the yrs in between he was moved 28 times . Every time he got into a good home they would move him.

One lady that’s been in foster parenting a long time . Has adopted several children . Not long ago dfacs dropped off a child didn’t go back and ck for over 4 months . She kept . calling them with no response. . She is the one who gave me so much info about the system , families and the abuse that was involved. Last I talked to her she was getting out .

I am sorry for what you have been thru and they would not help with expenses if you adopted. Soo wrong .

One day these people in these systems will give an account for how they have treated these children . . Praying for them all. I had thought about writing a book on all I have learned about all evil in the dfacs

Who’s really being protected ?

I was fixen to be sworn in my CASA . I had contacted Atlanta about the girl I was trying to help who had been molested by her family , now she was being molested by the system and how I thought it was a sex trafficking was happening in our dfacs and a joining county . Not to mention at that time Savannah was 10 with Autism. . Not to mention my boss and I saw the verbal abuse the foster parent did. . My CASA director told me I had to choose CASA or Savannah . Couldn’t I forget what I saw . No I can’t . I choose Savannah . But I know my director in CASA was a good person just lead by possible fear or politics . I was also told not to mention their name . . That’s protecting the children .. forget what you saw . Joke .

Yes I do believe there are alot of good workers in both systems . But some are scared to speak up and are overloaded as you said . My friend works at dfacs and she is who I called . Her bosses didn’t report. There is just too much to even say. A good friend of mine gave me an email of someone to contact and she got us an appointment with head person in dfacs . The head person we talked to said , that it was a wrongful transfer of the foster child . My boss and I happen to be there when the transfer happened. Changed my life forever .

There are a lot good foster parents that love their kids . But there is a lot who are in it for the money and are abusive .. That’s when police or someone need to investigate. One of the doctors I talked to .. he said ..Dfacs was not what it used to be .

Basically I was labeled rebellious because I stood for truth and would not back down . Also, I kept turning in dfacs and I was told in CASA you have to get along with Dfacs. I won’t ever stop trying to help Savannah . I saw it with my own eyes . It’s happening again with more children . But because of who she is .. she can get by with it . So sad .

I totally agree they are afraid of being sued .

Because of that fear , the children are the ones who suffer . So who’s really being protected? Not the children but the ones who are afraid of being sued .

Dfacs is the perfect place for sex and human trafficking . Often we think it would not happen around us and yet it does .

As long as Dfcs and their adjacent departments, especially OPM who oversees and governs the placement agencies for foster children with their out of touch policies, I see little hope for all of the children being send to RCT.

One of my foster daughters is extremely mentally challenged and I was not able to keep her in my home because of insufficient support and threats to remove all children in my care. At this point we were already on path of adoption.

When I was told that they would rather accept the child die while running into traffic when having a meltdown than me holding her back, all reasoning was off.

My kiddo was placed into a RCT for almost 6 month. I visited her once, because I was the one telling her she would not be able to come home, since none of the therapists or caseworkers had the guts to do so. I was shocked in what condition I found her at. She had gained about 15 lbs within 4 month, her clothes were dirty, she smelled and you could tell her teeth were not brushed in a while.

I was told I would have to take her back as a foster not adoptive placement for at least 6 month. This would have never worked, with her siblings already adopted carrying my name. There was no option and support that I could adopt her.

She has been placed in two different homes within three month of discharge from RCT, with the same issues. And I agree that treatment plans at discharge, and we had a few from the two major hospitals in Atlanta, are ridiculous to say the least.

What bothers me the most is that DFcs, children’s attorneys, CASA and medical professionals agree that the policies in place are absurd and children in foster care get denied the chance of a stable home, but I don’t see a lot of effort to get this right.
