A little news for your Saturday!
Multi-parent families: wave of the future?
Illinois DCFS Director Marc Smith is under fire for not having enough placements for children with higher-end behavioral health needs. Questions: (1) What’s the behavioral health department’s role here? (2) What is the federal government doing to encourage Medicaid to cover such placements?
A number of states are withdrawing or withholding residential child care licenses from organizations seeking to care for unaccompanied children who have crossed the border: e.g., Florida and Texas. Michigan settled a lawsuit in a way that allows faith-based foster providers to continue to enforce restrictions on LGBT individuals and couples who want to foster or adopt. The State agreed that the Supreme Court’s decision in Fulton v. Philadelphia was binding on Michigan.
Also, in Michigan, a legislator wants mandated reporters to be required to report instances of child-on-child sexual activity. I’m not sure that’s a great idea, given that these children generally need counseling.
Folks are finally seeing the damaging impact that Covid-related school closures and masking of very young children have had.
Keep the suggestions coming and have a great weekend!
