I’ve written a lot over the last year or so about foster children and youth living in agency offices and hotels due to their severe and complex behavioral and behavioral health needs and the lack of appropriate placements to address those needs. Many of these children come into care due to parental abandonment.
I’ll join a panel with national child welfare leaders to discuss this issue on Monday, January 30, from 1-3 p.m. at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, DC. You can participate virtually by RSVP'ing here. I hope you’ll join us!
In the interim, Andy Miller at Kaiser Health News has an article out today about the hoteling issue here in Georgia, and a joint committee of the Georgia State Senate is convening a hearing to discuss hoteling today at 3 pm.
Hotel ing isn't the only problem in child welfare. Kids die with agency “involvment” . Look at the kid in Savannah recently who was killed by his mom. Mom and grandma had DFCS history. Where did they fail this kid?
