A few things to enlighten or brighten your day:

In case you were wondering just how badly the pandemic has affected children’s mental health, crisis admissions at this hospital in SW Florida were up 500% in the first eight months of this year.
For those of you interested in international children’s rights issues, here and here are two good websites.
Ohio has joined the ranks of state bar organizations that recognize child welfare law as a board-certified specialty. If you’re interested in becoming a child welfare law specialist, please visit the National Association of Counsel for Children for more information. Maybe I should take this opportunity to call out the last remaining states that don’t yet recognize the certification: Florida, Indiana, Maine, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

These are great — we have some of these in Georgia and I’m especially interested in those that provide school-based mental health care. These clinics help identify problems early and help ensure that children receive the care they need in a place they already spend so much of their time. Plus, how many struggling parents have the time to take off from work and take a child to a doctor or therapist?
Read this story about police use of force against children.
There’s legislation in NYC to ensure that parents involved in CPS cases are advised of their rights — and pushback against that effort.
OK, that’s enough for today! Get back to work!
