It’s Thursday, so let’s review things in the news this week:
California has a new Foster Care Ombudsman.
If you haven’t read Sixto Cancel’s op-ed in the New York Times about his experience in foster care and the importance of kinship care, you should!
The Lexington Herald-Leader has a series of articles discussing issues in Kentucky’s juvenile justice system.
Tennessee lawmakers are considering a bill that would abolish the ability of child abuse reporters to remain anonymous. According to the Child Welfare Information Gateway, 44 states preserve anonymity for child abuse reporters.
Colorado, like other states, is struggling to provide appropriate mental health services to children, according to this article. The issues raised are similar to ones raised in a Washington State class action.
Finally, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is hoping to address foster care issues with a multi-agency summit. What a novel idea!!
