It’s Thursday, so let’s review things in the news this week:
- California has a new Foster Care Ombudsman.
- If you haven’t read Sixto Cancel’s op-ed in the New York Times about his experience in foster care and the importance of kinship care, you should!
- The Lexington Herald-Leader has a series of articles discussing issues in Kentucky’s juvenile justice system.
- Tennessee lawmakers are considering a bill that would abolish the ability of child abuse reporters to remain anonymous. According to the Child Welfare Information Gateway, 44 states preserve anonymity for child abuse reporters.
- Colorado, like other states, is struggling to provide appropriate mental health services to children, according to this article. The issues raised are similar to ones raised in a Washington State class action.
- Finally, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is hoping to address foster care issues with a multi-agency summit. What a novel idea!!
